After 25 years, a WhatsApp group was formed to re-connect with our Engineering college mates! Great way to kick start the year 2020. The group members seem excited to share and learn more from & about their college mates. There has been a certain struggle with names, putting a face to a name, recollecting moments and poking at each other. The group is looking forward to a re-union. It’s all fun!

Among many messages, a new term “World Ready” popped up and grabbed attention of many in the group!

This came from our good old friend Vikram Jayaprakash (aka Vicky).

This was in the context of the type of social gatherings we had during college days. It could be sitting and talking in canteens or parks or whilst walking long distances or the numerous memorable parties with alcohol flowing.

The ones who ventured into this adventure certainly agree that it played a significant part in shaping us as the individuals we are and contributed to honing our social skills .

There were others who didn’t believe in these adventures and largely limited themselves to focusing on studies and the college curriculum.

The typical stuff that would happen in these interactions

  • Organize funds
  • Plan (date, logistics & location)
  • Networking & Organization
  • Staying safe – Health & Safety
  • Decision making
  • Having fun (laughter, singing, dancing)
  • Stress relief
  • Communicating in a group, build on self confidence
  • Discuss on various issues
  • Share ideas
  • Interact with different set of people around us
  • Improve communication skills
  • Hone creative skills
  • People management
  • Creates memories

Doing it often may have helped us become “world ready”.

The key point is socializing; talking and listening to people that contributes to building our skills on a number of parameters required to be content and happy.

In simple words, being “world ready” could mean a non-formal education from right set of people that could help in development of skills such as resilience, confidence and communication amongst others.

The present generation need to find a way to acquire these skills and become world ready!

It’s amazing how Vicky brought this new term! I loved it!

Thank you, Vicky! Cheers!
