Our younger daughter decided to pursue commerce after her 10th grade. She picked Accountancy, Business Studies, Mathematics, and Statistics as her subjects. She’s always had a liking for mathematics and wants to keep her options open — possibly even switching to IT after her 12th. While we await her results, many schools and colleges in Bangalore allow you to block a seat in advance. We were particularly impressed with the college where we’ve secured her spot. What stood out was how early they began engaging with students — helping them get familiar with the environment, the subjects, and much more.
About six months ago, the college kicked off a series of sessions on Finance and Accounting for both students and parents. It was a great initiative, giving everyone a clear picture of what commerce as a career entails (and yes, quite a smart marketing move too). That’s when we decided to block her seat there. The founder of the college, a chartered accountant himself, is clearly passionate about promoting commerce as a career path.
Just a couple of days ago, the college held an introductory session for students and parents, walking us through their approach to education, the ground rules, and the ethos of the institution. It was genuinely a great session. And yesterday, they invited the students for a short, two-hour interaction focused on the core subjects. Our daughter came back beaming — she loved it! She spoke at length about what she learned: the purpose of business, the basics of Profit & Loss statements, the structure of a Balance Sheet, Business Law, and Economics. She was so excited, and it’s clear she’s going to enjoy the journey ahead.
My wife joked that in a few years, she might just become the most knowledgeable person in our home when it comes to business and finance! And it doesn’t stop there — the college has another session lined up to introduce the teaching staff. What a thoughtful way to keep students engaged and make learning exciting. Plus, they offer a wide range of extracurriculars to support all-round development. Our daughter is absolutely thrilled about starting college, and we couldn’t be happier seeing her find a path she’s genuinely excited about.
